As I sit here on the 4th of July watching the fireworks……….on the TV………. I think back on the times of my yesteryears when it was so much fun to gather friends and go down to Alki Beach and stake your claim early in the morning and play all day in the sun (well when it was sunny) just for that 45 minutes of fireworks that starts at 10:00 pm. The fireworks were always the best and the music was contemporary (well being from Seattle how could it not be) and the company was always great, the food good and the ride home atrocious with all the traffic. But I loved every minute of it.
Tonight, I watched the fireworks in New York, on TV, stunning and the music was fabulous. I was of course just killing time until ours started here in Seattle of course. Then I can hear the first crack of thunder that signals the start of the fireworks and I change the station, where I watched some really good fireworks set to some of the WORST music I have ever heard!!!! How come we went from contemporary to crap………?? Or was it always crap and I was just a lot younger then. I mean I loved going to the beach and hanging out. Now, I still love the beach, but not the crowds, and what is with our fireworks literally shooting off a mushroom cloud?? Did they go nuclear? So glad I am not there. Jimmy Hendrix is playing now…….OK, I am changing the station now. Enough of this, time to watch King of the Hill.
I will think about my youth later…………
